Dr. Carla Malinverni earned her Ph.D. in Materials Science and Technology from Politecnico di Torino, Italy. Her doctoral thesis, titled “Study of glass-ceramics and brazing alloys for joining oxide and non-oxide ceramic matrix composites in corrosive and high-temperature environments,” focused on the development and optimization of advanced joining solutions designed to ensure structural integrity in aggressive and high-temperature conditions.

She currently works as a Materials Engineer and Research Fellow within the GLANCE (Glasses, Ceramics and Composites) Group led by Prof. Ferraris at Politecnico di Torino. Her activities focus on adhesion technologies like joining techniques, coatings, and surface treatments, as well as on advanced ceramics and composites for energy applications. Throughout her academic path, she participated in several national and international conferences and workshops, where she presented her research findings, engaged with fellow researchers in the field of advanced ceramics, and received several awards for best poster presentations.

Strongly convinced that collaboration is essential to advancing research and innovation, she actively contributes to the ceramics community. Since joining The American Ceramic Society in 2022, she has volunteered in different capacities, including co-managing the GLANCE Group’s social media community. Her appointment as YCN Representative for Italy represents a further significant milestone in her professional journey, reflecting her commitment to fostering connections and supporting the international community of ceramists.

Turning Waste into Raw Materials for the Ceramic Industry.

Waste materials were once seen as a burden but are increasingly being redefined as valuable resources for ceramic production. Through advances in materials engineering, waste can be used as secondary raw materials in the ceramic industry. This shift enables more circular and resource-efficient ceramic manufacturing systems.

Implementing 3D-Printed Technical Ceramics in Regulated Medical Fields.

Bringing a new manufacturing technology into medicine requires far more than producing an impressive component. In highly regulated fields, innovation must be translated into repeatable processes, documented quality, reliable materials and, ultimately, evidence of clinical value. Lithoz has spent more than a decade building this bridge for Lithography-based Ceramic Manufacturing (LCM).
