Dr. Azim Uddin's journey in materials science began with a deep fascination for the intersection of physics and engineering, sparked during his undergraduate studies in Electronics Engineering at PAF-Karachi Institute of Economics & Technology in Pakistan. Recognizing the transformative potential of advanced materials, he pursued a Master's degree in Nanotechnology and Materials for Micro and Nano-systems at the prestigious National University of Science and Technology "MISiS" in Russia, where he developed foundational expertise in nanostructured materials.

His passion for research led him to China, where he was invited to join Zhejiang University—ranked among the world's top 50 universities—for his doctoral studies. Under the supervision of Professor Faxiang Qin, Dr. Azim completed his Ph.D. in Materials Physics and Chemistry (2017–2020), focusing on magnetic metallic fiber-reinforced polymer composites for tunable metamaterial properties. His innovative work during this period laid the groundwork for his future contributions to the field of microwave-functional materials.

Following his doctorate, Dr. Azim continued as a Postdoctoral Researcher at Zhejiang University (2020–2024), where he expanded his research toward multifunctional polymer composites, electromagnetic interference shielding, and high-frequency characterization. His excellence in research was recognized through multiple awards, including the prestigious Young Researcher Award at the 12th Asian-Australasian Conference on Composite Materials (ACCM-12) in 2023 and the Shaoxing Talent Category B Award in 2024.

Currently, Dr. Azim serves as a Research Fellow and Project Manager at the Zhejiang (Shaoxing) High-Level Foreign Experts Innovation Center, while maintaining active collaborations with Xi'an Jiaotong University in China and the University of South Africa. He is also the leader of The A. Uddin Nanomaterials Chemistry and Advanced Composites Lab, which focuses on developing advanced polymer composites for 5G/6G microwave electronics, sustainable materials, and biomedical applications through interdisciplinary research and global partnerships.

Dr. Azim's first engagement with the composite materials community began during his Ph.D., when he actively participated in international conferences organized by the Chinese Society of Composite Materials (CSCM). Since then, his involvement has deepened significantly. He has presented his work at prestigious conferences across the globe, where he not only showcased his research but also promoted the scientific capabilities of the Zhejiang Innovation Center and fostered international partnerships.

As an emerging leader in the field, Dr. Azim is committed to strengthening the global young researchers' network. With over 45 peer-reviewed publications, 4 innovation patents, he brings both scientific credibility and collaborative energy to the community. As a prospective YCN representative for China, he aims to:

  • Connect young Chinese researchers with global opportunities in composite and ceramic sciences
  • Disseminate information about international projects, funding schemes, and training programs
  • Initiate cross-border scientific collaborations to elevate research quality in Chinese institutions
  • Organize symposia, workshops, and summer schools that bridge China with global materials research networks


Dr. Azim's journey—from Karachi to Moscow, Hangzhou, and now Shaoxing—reflects a career defined by curiosity, resilience, and a steadfast commitment to advancing materials science for the benefit of society.
