YCN representative - Belgium
Berfu Göksel
YCN representative for the Belgian Ceramic Society
KU Leuven
Berfu Göksel is currently in her fourth year pursuing a Ph.D. in the Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering research group at the Department of Materials Engineering at KU Leuven. She holds a Master's degree in Metallurgical Engineering from RWTH Aachen and obtained her Bachelor's degree from METU, Turkey. Berfu's research is dedicated to the field of additive manufacturing of ceramics for dental implants.
Berfu is actively involved in realizing an application-oriented design for functionally graded Al2O3/ZrO2 ceramic dental implants. Her research aims to develop implants with exceptional properties, including high hardness, ageing resistance, damage tolerance, toughness, and biocompatibility.
Throughout her Ph.D. journey, Berfu has attended various conferences, notably the 47th International Conference & Exposition on Advanced Ceramics & Composites (ICACC), where she was supported by the JECST trust travel grant. She also had the honor of representing Belgium in the ECerS 2023 student speech contest.
Her journey with the Young Ceramists Network (YCN) started virtually but quickly transitioned to in-person meetups during conferences. Berfu finds great joy in the events and networking opportunities that YCN brings to the table. She believes that the YCN community is highly beneficial for young researchers and takes pride in being part of this collaborative and supportive team.
Berfu is thrilled to contribute to this community!
