Obituary - Professor Athena Tsetsekou

The Greek Scientific Community mourns the loss of our dear colleague Professor Athena Tsetsekou (64), Professor at the National Technical University of Athens, at the School of Mining and Metallurgical Engineering, and President of the Hellenic Ceramic Society.

Professor Athena Tsetsekou was a wonderful person and a very capable scientist, she fought her illness with strength and dignity, while supporting her family and fulfilling her educational and research duties at the School with a high sense of responsibility, as she did throughout her entire career.

She left behind a rich scientific work in the field of ceramic materials, with over 240 publications in international journals and conferences, more than 40 research programs – mainly as a principal investigator or coordinator – and 5 patents. She was a founding member of the Hellenic Ceramic Society (HCS), serving many times as a member of the Board of Directors (treasurer, secretary and president).

She had a significant educational contribution, as she taught numerous undergraduate and graduate courses and supervised 14 doctoral theses, 20 graduate and many undergraduate diploma theses.

Her University and the Greek and European Ceramic Socities, including the Greek Ceramic Industry and  Innovation as well as students, lost an excellent member and a wonderful person.
