Interview by Elsevier of Maria Canillas, guest editor for 2 special issues in Open Ceramics!

Maria was guest editor for the 2022 Special Issue "Young Ceramicists in the Spotlight" and the 2023 Special Issue on "Next frontier bioceramics: improvements from collaborative and multi-disciplinary approaches"

In the summer of 2024, we were delighted to learn the first impact factor for Open Ceramics - 2.9 - which was a wonderful recognition of the immense work not only of the Editor-in-Chief, Professor Paolo Colombo, the associate editor team and the support of the JECS trust, but also of the many authors and guest editors who have placed their trust and support in this young journal to help build this high quality title. One such person is Dr Maria Canillas, who has contributed to the journal both as an author and as a guest editor. There are two very successful special issues that she has worked on in collaboration with colleagues, first as part of the Young Ceramists Network and secondly as part of the Bioceramics network.

Elsevier invited her to discuss her experience in collaborating with the journal in these different capacities, and also the impact of these collaborations on her own work and career.
